Steinheim lake I

Posted by ManuelaR (Hainburg (Frankfurt/Main), Germany) on 13 December 2006 in Plant & Nature.

This used to be a digging place for stones & sand. The underground water formed this natural lake. Some years back, one could swim in it but after so many diving accidents from the bridge (the underground water levels vary a lot), it now became a protected natural environment & swimming is supposed to be forbidden.
Steinheim means "home of the stones" and is our favorite area in Hanau (only 8 km from where we live now).
Unfortunately that day the sky was not very blue ;(

Jason Kravitz from Brussels, Belgium

pretty lake and a lovely reflection.
I'd be tempted to add a little contrast to this one or more black to really enrich the color of the rocks.

@Jason Kravitz: Thanks Jason for your tips! My aim here though was to keep the natural colours as much as possible. But promise I will try further ;)

Darren from Japan

I noticed you said supposed to be forbidden, so what is it like to swim in? Nice shot mate

@Darren: Yes Darren, you noticed correctly. Generally some people and dogs still go swimming in there. Since it is a protected environment - honestly - I haven´t. But in the past, the water was always soooo cold and the currents were quite dangerous (remember, it´s coming from natural underground river). Thanks for your visit and interest.

Duncan Galbraith from kyoto, Japan

What a location! great take Manuela. The reflections really sets it off. It has a great stillness.

@Duncan Galbraith: In such a location you feel suddendly quite small!
Me & my husband started whispering when talking to each other, quite funny.
Thanks for stopping by.
