langermannia gigantea

This white enormous mushroom had the size of a football (soccer)! If anyone doubts, I have another version with a foot next to it ;)

Found during our walk through the Steinheim Lake woods - Hanau, Germany

For the sceptical ones, I will post another picture in the future with a foot next to it ;)
I looked it up and yes, it seems that it is edible but only if the inside is white (?). We did not take it home - anyway - this is a protected environment, you are not to take anything and destroy nature´s beauty...
Thanks for all your amazed comments!!

Ok, ok I trust you... O_O WHAT! You said the size of a football!!! no way!!! The foot on the other photo is certainly a babies one ^^. Whatever the size, this photo give good credits to the mushroom.

I would love to see the one with the foot. It would be great to get a close up of the underneath side of the mushroom.

I found one in my backyard that was 5 1/2 inches of diameter. It smells like cultivated mushrooms and is edible when the inside is white (it turns brown when getting ready to release its spores). Just slice it then seize it in a frying pan with butter and seasonings just like a steak.
