beach stone curlewPosted by ManuelaR (Hainburg (Frankfurt/Main), Germany) on 5 July 2007 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio. Zoo in Cologne - Germany This bird was very captivating with its beautiful eyes. It was sitting on the nest and did not even notice us... ;) Thanks to Bron we now know what kind of bird it is!!! We are leaving this weekend for a well-deserved vacation and will return in a few weeks' time. Will catch with everyone then. Enjoy your summer and do not forget your cameras at home... ;) Thanks for your valuable tips and/or constructive input!!

{H} creatives from Santa Clara, United StatesHi Manuela, you are right beautiful eyes on this bird! Looks like it's got a natural "camouflage" texture on its feathers that blends well with its surrounding (your background). Great capture...have a safe and fun "well-deserved" vacation! Cheers....! 5 Jul 2007 7:20am Babul Bhatt from Bombay, IndiaStrange expression for a bird... i wudn't go too close to it tho. Nice shot! 5 Jul 2007 12:20pm Bron from Canberra, AustraliaIt's one of our native Ozzies - a Beach Curlew or Thick Knee!! One of my favourite birds - it wails in the night in a truly scary, mysterious way but is a great parent to its chick. Both parents looking after it so well - Lovely picture Manuela. Have a good break. 5 Jul 2007 1:05pm @Bron: Thank you so much for the information ;) Janet from Francede très jolis yeux , merci pour vos belles séries de photos. 5 Jul 2007 7:55pm @Janet: Merci beaucoup, Janet :) frank from amadora, PortugalUnknown but beautifull .
