HOT TIP FOR ALL AM3 CONTRIBUTORS (from Ian Bramham here in Aminus3):
I've been having problems for ages with my uploaded landscape orientated images looking fuzzy and not as sharp as they should be....well I finally found the answer yesterday in an answer by Jason Kravitz to a query in the forums .....if you too have been having this problem the answer is to make sure you resize your photos to a maximum horizontal dimension of 800 pixels (vertical size is not limited). Anything greater than 800pixels and AM3 will automatically resize it leading to the reduction in sharpness.

Please feel free to copy and paste this advice into your own AM3 blogs as I'm sure there are lots of our fellow AM3ers out there having this same frustrating problem...it would be great to sort the problem out for as many of us as possible.

Thanks for your valuable tips and/or constructive input!!

is that a fish in his beak?wow,this is a totally brilliant and superb capture of predator in action!

9 Jan 2008 7:12am

@tyan: Hi tyan!
No, it's not a fish. This little fellow was having such fun with just a small little piece of wood!
Flying high, dropping it in the water, diving & catching it, and start all over again...

Thanks for your visit ;)

It's been a nice series, and the advice is correct for most sites. It's also good to note when saving a copy to "save as", and not "save for the web" to maintain exif. In addition, be sure it's converted to sRGB 8 bit (which is web standard), and not Abode RGB or16 bit since this will also cause re-processing resulting in duller colors. Last step before posting should be to sharpen. I wasn't aware the height wasn't important for Am3, since it is for other sites. But, I really hate scrolling to view an entire shot. I've always felt if I can't view it in one gulp, the impacts lost. Just personal preference I guess. Thanks!

This is a beauty.

Thanks for the tip. Fortunately I was already sizing my images that way for both of my blogs so I never noticed that issue. I like to keep the longest side at 800. I too like to see the whole photo on the screen. I think something is lost too when I have to scroll down to take in the whole image.

Ohhhhh, I can feel the fun here indeed!! :O) Once again, I really love the detail on the wings, and the seagull’s amazing posture here along with these beautiful ripples makes this an utterly gorgeous capture and composition. Truly Wow.

The waves of the water could be called " The seagull effect ". Very good series. :)

MGB from Lisboa, Portugal

A landscape (view of a lake), a bit of action, a touch of love. Almost as in the famous play of Anton Tchékhov. :))

10 Jan 2008 12:57am

@MGB: Thank you so much!
By the way this is the river Main, at the end of my street where all this action took place ;)
